Backyard Birds: Bird Watching for Beginners is a book that teaches both young and old about birds commonly seen in the United States. I designed and Illustrated the book to have a sophisticated yet playful tone. I wanted the book and illustrations to be appreciated by both children and parent. I used line and shape to illustrate the birds, keeping them simple yet including enough detail to really distinguish each bird’s unique look. For typography I paired a modern humanist san serif with a sleek serif to fit with the books tone.
