WORDS HURT
2016, Art Direction by Alice Drueding
Words Hurt is a poster I created when prompted to design for a social justice topic of my choosing. Verbal assault and harassment of women is something that happens often but is rarely taken as seriously as physical abuse. Emotional and verbal abuse can have short-term and long-lasting effects that are just as serious as the effects of physical abuse. This project was very personal to me and I wanted to reflect the power of words with my piece.
My poster is featured in an international poster exhibition called "Women's Rights Are Human Rights”, which advocates to end to gender-based inequity, violence and discrimination. The exhibition, and my poster, has thus far been featured in Northeastern University's 360 Gallery, the Warsaw Poster Museum, the Galicia Jewish Museum, William Paterson University, Ohio Northern University, York College of PA, the Sala de Exposiciones 4th Espacio de Zaragoza, and the European Academy of Design Conference held in Dundee, Scotland.
